Our Mission

The mission of the Emergency Management team is to create a safe and resilient campus community by effectively preparing for, mitigating, responding to, and recovering from emergencies and disasters.

Promoting a Culture of Preparedness

The Emergency Management team was created in May 2023, reporting to the newly created Office of Public Safety and Chief Safety Officer. At the same time, the reporting structure of Risk Management and UAPD shifted from Business Affairs to Public Safety. From 2005 to May 2023, UAPD facilitated emergency management responsibilities, including training campus departments in emergency operations, helping prepare emergency plans for departments and buildings, and updating the University’s Emergency Response and Business Continuity plans.

Through effective emergency planning, training, and collaboration, we strive to protect lives, preserve property and the environment, and promote a culture of preparedness. We are dedicated to empowering individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively respond to emergencies, safeguarding the well-being of our students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
