Lane Spalla
Lane Spalla has been with The University of Arizona’s Office of Emergency Management since March of 2018. He began public service as a professional firefighter in 1981 serving numerous roles before departing Tucson’s Northwest Fire District as a Battalion Chief in 2015. Lane was a Shift Commander and managed the Special Operations Team's emergency management, hazardous materials response, and technical rescue programs. He served on the Command Staff for Arizona’s Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) assisting our state and nation in preventing, preparing for, and responding to terrorist attacks. He was a Command Staff member of Arizona's Metropolitan Medical Response System (MMRS) for public health emergencies involving epidemic disease outbreaks, hazardous materials incidents, and natural disasters.
Lane has been an instructor with various organizations including Arizona Division of Emergency Management/Military Affairs and the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation. He served 15 years as a Master Instructor with the International Association of Firefighters where he helped develop and deliver preparedness program training in over 40 national and international communities. He holds advanced professional certificates from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and U.S. Department of Homeland Security in the National Preparedness System and the National Incident Management System. He is a Certified Emergency Manager with the International Association of Emergency Managers.
Lane is a graduate of the University of Arizona’s College of Medicine Paramedic Program and attended Arizona State University where he received his Bachelor’s in Public Administration and Master’s Degree in Emergency Management and Homeland Security. Lane is married and together he and his wife are proud parents of two University of Arizona graduates.
